International Fundraising Consultancy
Mena is an experienced fundraiser specializing in capital appeals, major donor development, trusts and foundations, research and event management.
She has been working in the sector for almost 13 years, initially working at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, where she ran a capital campaign to raise $7.5 million to build a new treatment centre. This included raising funds from major donors, high value donor mailings, corporates, events and trusts and foundations. Following the success of this appeal she set up the major donor program at the Medical Foundation, raising in excess of $160,000 in its first year.
Since leaving the Medical Foundation, she has run the trust program at Rights of Women and over the past 7 years has worked as a consultant for a number of organizations, including Friends of the Earth, Liberty, War on Want and One World Action. Within Canada, she is currently working with Starlight Children's Foundation, Interval House Ottawa and Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre.
Her achievements include raising significant sums from trusts and foundations, including writing and supporting organizations to develop successful bids of up to $3.2 million. She has also developed fundraising strategies and plans for a range of organisations covering a broad range of techniques, including major donors, grants, individual giving, legacies and events.
As a consultant Mena has managed a varied client list, often with a number of projects per client, both short and long-term, meeting deadlines (from client to funder-led) as required.
Mena has served on the boards of the Institute of Fundraising, the Institute of Fundraising's National Convention 2010, Bhavan (Asian women's refuge) and Rights of Women. She also sits on the Steering Committee of the Starlight Children's Foundation, Ottawa, is fundraising adviser to Interval House, Ottawa and is on the Fundraising Committee for Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre. She holds the Certificate in Fundraising Management from the Institute of Fundraising and is soon to commence her CFRE certificate.
Mena has also presented and delivered training internationally on strategy, major donor development, major donor research, bid writing and cultivating relationships to a range of audiences, including delegates at the 7th International Fundraising Workshop, Kiev, Medtronic Patient Link Workshop in Brussels and the Human Rights Faculty at the University of Essex.
Mena regularly travels to Toronto and has a Toronto base which she uses on her trips to the City.
